| Graduation Information for Bachelor’s Degree Candidates June 2008 Dear Graduating Students, CONGRATULATIONS! GRADUATION DATE AND TIME The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 pm. GRADUATION SITE The graduation ceremony will take place at the Cairo International Conference Center in Nasr City. REHEARSAL Rehearsal for the graduation ceremony will take place on the same day as graduation at 8:30 am in the International Conference Center. Please be on time so that we can start and finish promptly. Since you will have attended the graduation meeting, we expect the rehearsal to go quickly. ADMISSION TO CEREMONY At the rehearsal you will receive a card with your assigned seat number. • Make sure to bring your card with you in the evening, along with your personal invitation, or you may not be permitted to enter. • Please make sure mobile phones are switched off during the ceremony. • Cameras are not allowed during the ceremony. GRADUATION RING If you are interested in having your own graduation ring, you may order it at the alumni office, room 201, Hill House, and you will receive it within three months. GROUP PHOTO Don’t miss the opportunity to have this great souvenir! The group photo date without cap and gown is on Friday, May 23, and with the cap and gown is on Friday, June 13. ACADEMIC CAPS AND GOWNS Before you take your cap and gown, you are required to pay a deposit of LE 300 at the cashier’s office (the cashier is open on working days from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm). You will take the tassel as a souvenir during the rehearsal on the day of the commencement. In case you lose your tassel, you must buy another one. Also, students graduating with outstanding academic performance will receive their honors ribbons during the rehearsal and will keep them as souvenirs from the university. In other words, the LE 300 is only a deposit for the cap and gown. *If you have your own academic cap and gown, you are required to show them Dina El Shazly, room 209, second floor, Hill House, between June 8 and 18 to ensure they match the AUC caps and gowns. If you fail to obtain approval, you will not be able to receive your invitations. If you return the cap and gown between June 22 and July 3, you will be refunded your LE 300 deposit. If not, you will lose your LE 300 and it will be used to purchase a replacement. You may return your academic gown to Mona Khalifa, Office of Student Services, 5 Youssef El Guindi Street, sixth floor, office 55 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm during the return period. The deadline to return academic gowns is Thursday, July 3 at 1:00 pm. INVITATIONS Each graduating student will receive four guest invitations: two invitations to be used by parents or substitutes for the entire evening and two additional invitations to be used by other guests for the second part only (distribution of diplomas). You may receive your invitations for the ceremony from Dina El Shazly, room 209, second floor, Hill House, from Sunday, June 8, to Wednesday, June 18 (from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm daily). You will not be able to receive your invitations before picking up your academic gown and obtaining clearance from the library, registrar and accounts office. You are requested to present your ID and the three clearances to get your invitations. No one is permitted to take anyone else’s invitations. Note: There will be no distribution of invitations on campus on the day of graduation. You must arrange to get your invitations on or before June 18. GRADUATION SPEECH The commencement ceremony will include a two-minute speech by a graduating senior. The speech is to contain a serious message and meaningful statement to leave with the graduating class. Guidelines: (1) Students are to present their entries to Aida Maged at the Office of Student Development, Wallace Building, Greek Campus. The Student Union high board selects five of the speeches for committee consideration (high board members who are submitting speeches are to be replaced by SU seniors who are not submitting speeches). Papers presented should include the text of the proposed two-minute speech, as well as a separate listing of the student’s GPA, activities, honors, etc. The deadline for all submissions is on Wednesday, June 4. You may submit your entry at any time before the deadline. (2) A committee composed of a representative from the SU (who is not one of the candidates), the chair of the University Senate and a representative of the vice president for student affairs will meet to make the final selection, based mainly on the proposed speeches. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 11.
