| Graduation Information for Master’s Degree Candidates June 2008 Dear Graduating Students, CONGRATULATIONS! GRADUATION DATE AND TIME The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at 7:00 pm GRADUATION SITE The commencement ceremony will take place in Ewart Hall at the American University in Cairo. REHEARSAL Rehearsal for the graduation ceremony will take place on the same day as graduation at 9:00 am in Ewart Memorial Hall. It is important that you be present at the rehearsal so that you know your seat assignment, the flow of the program and your part in it, what you are expected to do and when. If everyone is on time, rehearsal is expected to take only one and a half hours. ADMISSION TO CEREMONY At the rehearsal you will receive a card with your seat number assignment. • Make sure to bring your card with you in the evening, along with your personal invitation, or else you may not be permitted to enter. • Please make sure that mobile phones are switched off during the graduation ceremony. • Cameras are not allowed during the graduation ceremony. GRADUATION RING If interested in having your own graduation ring, you may order it at the alumni office in room 201, Hill House, and you will receive it within three months. ACADEMIC CAPS AND GOWNS Before you take your cap, gown and hood, you are required to pay a deposit of LE 350 (LE 285 for the cap and gown, and LE 65 for the hood). The cashier is open on working days from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. You will be hooded on stage by your department chair. Also, you will take the tassel as a souvenir during the rehearsal on the day of the commencement. In case you lose your tassel, you must buy another one. You may be fitted for a gown on the following dates at these times: (Backstage at Ewart Memorial Hall) Tuesday June 10 noon - 2:00 pm Wednesday June 11 2:00 - 4:00 pm Thursday June 12 10:00 am - noon Saturday June 14 4:00 - 6:00 pm Monday June 16 noon - 2:00 pm Tuesday June 17 11:00 am - 1:00 pm *If you have your own academic cap and gown, you are required to show them to Dina El Shazly, room 209, second floor, Hill House, between June 8 and 16 to ensure they match the AUC caps and gowns. If you fail to obtain approval, you will not be able to receive your invitations. If you return the cap, gown and hood between June 22 and July 3, you will be refunded your LE 350 deposit. If not, you will lose your LE 350 and it will be used to purchase a replacement. You may return your academic gown to Mona Khalifa, Office of Student Services, 5 Youssef El Guindi Street, sixth floor, office 55, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm during the return period. The deadline to return gowns is Thursday, July 3 at 1:00 pm. INVITATIONS You may receive your invitations for the ceremony from Dina El Shazly, room 209, second floor, Hill House, from Sunday, June 8, to Monday, June 16 (from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm daily).You will not be able to receive your invitations before picking up your academic gown and obtaining clearance from the library, registrar and accounts office. You are requested to present your ID and the three clearances to get your invitations. No one is permitted to take anyone else’s invitations. Note: There will be no distribution of invitations on campus on the day of graduation. You must arrange to get your invitations on or before June 16. Students with a compelling reason for an extra invitation should check with the vice provost’s office in room 204, Main Campus.
